D2L LMS Conversion from Proprietary and Blackboard LMS

End Users: Adult Learners in Higher Ed

Completed migration of course content of 30 courses from the client's proprietary and Blackboard LMS into the D2L LMS. Courses were imported into D2L, but often times content needed to be reorganized, edited, and many times the course needed completed redone in D2L. Many quizzes, quiz settings, and documents continually needed editing and assistance from the SME were often needed. Converting LMS content is more than just copy/paste in most situations as an ID is usually making instructional designs on how to reword, reorder, and better organize content. Consistency in document file types and language is sought across all new courses in the new LMS instance.

Collaboration

I worked with a small team of employees of the client remotely. They ran a common cartridge to push content from their proprietary LMS and from Blackboard into D2L. Many times the course needed to be restructured from scratch for consistency and clarity from the student view. Several conference calls occurred due to quiz question banks not transferring or presenting correctly in QA. I had access to the client-server for files and documentation. On average a course would take 10-40 hours to convert based on the content and severity of revisions and professor contact needed.

Syllabus Creation

A new syllabus was created for each course and attached inside the LMS. The new syllabus required collaboration as well as many items were missing or inconsistent.

Project Management

For ease of tracking and due to so many moving pieces, a spreadsheet was created documenting each step along the process for each course.
