Elearning Storyboard Development

End Users: Military Personnel

The client, a government subcontractor, was in need of storyboards to be created for elearning module development with a team of 5+ other instructional designers. Storyboards were developed using a template in Microsoft Word along with a Media Request template. They were handed off and approved.

ANALYSIS

Instructional design of the content had already been completed. A design document had already been created for all course modules, lessons, topics, and objectives. Terminal and enabling objectives from the design document were used to align all content included within each elearning module.

Content Received

OneDrive access was granted to several handbooks and proprietary source content files the included the content to be used in the elearning modules.

A detailed storyboard template was created identifying the options for slide layout that could be used for each scene.

A style guide was received as well as notating word choices, spelling, and various graphic selections.

Access to Shutterstock images was provided.

Collaboration

Email and phone were the primary sources of communication among team members

DESIGN

Storyboards Designed

The storyboard for 1 module covered 7 topics with multiple scenes inside each topic.

Storyboards had to follow a certain pattern with an introduction of each topic followed by specific transition verbiage provided in the style guide from one scene to another.

Knowledge check questions were included at the end of each topic.

Each topic had specifications as to how the scene should be concluded.

Media Request Created

A separate Word document was created to provide specifications for each graphic that needed to be created if so. If images were pulled from a file or stock photography database, the location was noted by scene as to where to locate the image, the size of the image to create, and placement of the image within a specified slide template.

Handoff

Storyboards were then uploaded into the OneDrive shared access folders.

A brief web conference was scheduled to review any questions prior to handoff and approval.

The client took the project from there for development.
